We all want to be heard and taken seriously
Relationships and being connected to other human beings is a fundamental and essential part of life. I approach therapy from the perspective of the importance of attachments, how they have and continue to impact our daily lives. We can also have a complex relationship with ourselves which can inform how we show up in the world and can become a barrier to reaching our goals.
In a child development class in undergrad at Texas State University, is where my love of attachment theory began. It lead me to receiving my graduate degree in Social Work from The University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work, in 2005. I have worked with individuals, children and families in many different capacities for over 20 years. I served as a Staff Social Worker, then Senior Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor, at The Menninger Clinic, from 2009-2015. While there I was fortunate to train and learn from some of the best clinicians in the country. In 2015 I began working for Rice University in their Counseling and Wellbeing Department. There I provided individual therapy to students and graduate students. In 2021 I started working full time in private practice.
Goals of mine in working with clients is to work along side clients to help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and their relationships. To help identify barriers that are getting in the way of them reaching their goals and enjoying their lives. To learn how to take care of ourselves in difficult times and treat ourselves with grace and self compassion.
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectial Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Theory, and Attachment Theory in my individual and family therapy with clients.
